Berryhill says more work needs to be done

Sacramento -- Senator Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, issued the following statement in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s 20187 State of the State address:

“California is the greatest state in the union and the only place I want to live. But there are so many unresolved issues confronting us.”

“During my time in the Legislature, there have certainly been some improvements, most notably a Rainy Day Fund, a water bond and pension reform, all of which Senate Republicans fought for years to establish.”

“But we are many years away from having a sustainable water supply, and we face a runaway cost of living, a housing crisis, a budget on the brink of disaster, an educational system that fails both students and teachers and a changing criminal justice system that in recent years has indiscriminately reinserted many felons back into our communities, making our streets less safe for hardworking families.”

“While we have taken a few positive steps forward, it’s important to remember so many of our citizens are still suffering  and more work needs to be done.”
